“I can’t understand why people are frightened of new ideas, I’m frightened of the old ones.” John Cage
John Cage’s new ideas are on display next week at The Claremont Colleges Library, as part of our “Cage at Claremont” series of events. Panels and lectures share Cage’s “new ideas” and their effect on the worlds of art and music, while interactive, improvisatory workshops invite you to share your own “new ideas” in response to Cage’s work. Invite Cage’s creativity to become part of your daily life as we explore together during this week of events.
Build your own instruments in an avant-garde performance workshop. Learn from professional record executives about what it takes to produce and license music in the 21st century. Listen to performances from world-class musicians such as Jon Leidecker (aka Wobbly, pioneering electronic musician) and Thurston Moore (guitarist for Sonic Youth).
View the complete schedule on our Cage at Claremont page, and don’t forget to reserve your free tickets to the culminating concert, a new performance of Cage’s enigmatic piece Electronic Music for Piano.
