Donated to The Claremont Colleges Library by Ruth Frey Axe in memory of her nephew, the Charles S. Frey Memorial Bicycle Collection features materials relating to bicycling and bicycle enthusiasm. Mrs. Axe and her husband developed a lifelong love of bicycling after responding to the U.S. government’s call to conserve gasoline during World War II, which in turn, inspired Ruth in her collecting pursuits. In this collection, you will find posters, commemorative pins, rare periodicals, journals, correspondence, children’s stories, and more.
